's-Hertogenbosch, locally Den Bosch, guards one of the best-preserved fortified old towns in the country, complete with a moat, canal cellars unique to the city, and the towering Sint-Janskathedraal. Beyond the historic core, the municipality extends into Rosmalen and Empel across the A2, Maaspoort to the north, and the newer De Groote Wielen district with its lakeside layout.
