Living in Maastricht

Maastricht sits in the southernmost part of the Netherlands, closer to Belgium and Germany than to most other major Dutch cities, which gives it a distinct regional character. Wyck, on the eastern bank of the Maas, is a fashionable district known for its shops and dining alongside residential streets, connected to the historic centre by the Sint Servaasbrug. The Jekerkwartier, near the university, has a bohemian reputation and a concentration of student housing. Randwyck, further from the centre, includes newer development and is home to the university's medical campus. As a university city with a large international student population, particularly from Belgium and Germany, competition for rooms and studios near the centre and university facilities can be significant, so starting your search early is generally worthwhile.
