Living in Arnhem

Arnhem's setting along the Rhine and close to the Veluwe forest area gives it a greener character than many other Dutch cities of comparable size. The Spijkerkwartier, just east of the centre, is a well-known district of late-nineteenth-century housing that has become popular for its independent shops and cafes alongside residential streets. Klarendal, once a working-class neighbourhood, has undergone significant regeneration and is now known for design and craft businesses alongside housing. Arnhem-Noord offers a more suburban, spacious residential character, while Schuytgraaf, on the southern edge of the city, is a large newer-build district developed from the 2000s onward. The combination of city amenities and proximity to the Veluwe makes Arnhem a common choice for people who want easy access to nature without moving far from urban services.
