Living in Almere

Almere is one of the newest cities in the Netherlands, built on reclaimed Flevoland polder land and organised into distinct districts: Almere Stad around the waterfront centre, Almere Buiten to the east, Almere Poort towards the coast of the IJmeer, and the more residential Pampus area beyond. Because most of the housing stock was built from the late twentieth century onward, homes tend to be more spacious, with newer construction standards and better insulation than in many older Dutch cities. The city has grown into a substantial urban centre with its own cultural venues and shopping streets while remaining closely tied to Amsterdam by rail. Buyers and renters coming from older cities often notice wider streets, more green space, and modern layouts, so comparing current listings against expectations formed elsewhere is worthwhile before shortlisting.
